What activities are avalaible on the GTV ?

Hiking, or with a mule or donkey:
Accompanied walking treks or self-guided, or have your backpack transported, by a donkey, or a mule-driver and his mule. Many GTV accommodation providers accept donkeys if notified in advance (watch out for the limestone pavements that can be dangerous for donkeys).

Horse riding :
Horse riding centres offer horses to experienced riders and organise accompanied trips in the Vercors.

GTV accommodation providers
Some GTV accommodation providers are equipped to accept horses even if not listed as "gîtes équestres” (watch out for the limestone pavements that can be dangerous for horses).

 

Mountain-biking :
A landmark in the world of MTB. The complete GTV itinerary is only for experienced riders.
Families can discover MTB routes following the 4 authorized VTT/FFC sites (Mountain-biking/French Cycling Federation) and the trail network of the Vercors massif. These are suited for all ability levels (please contact the Tourist Offices for details).
GTV accommodation providers can offer security for your bikes. Taxis are available with bike trailers and 9 seater mini-buses.

Buses will accept bikes in their luggage compartment !

Nordic Skiing :
Vercors offers excellent snow conditions at medium altitude.
The ski track preparations are recognised as some of the finest in Europe. The variety of landscapes and profiles are exceptional.

Snow-shoes or Nordic ski rando:
All nordic ski sites provide trails for walking with or without snowshoes.
The Nordic ski areas are indicated with « GTV » signs. However, these are across remote areas so maps and compasses are advised.
In addition to the Nordic ski venues, the Vercors also provides one of the remaining sites to ski in an untouched wilderness :

Dog-sledging :
Dog-sledging is controlled within the Park. However professional mushers provide memorable excursions with their Nordic dogs

Before you leave:

Be prepared ! In the mountains, the weather conditions can change quickly !

  • Do not leave on your own.
  • Ensure in advance your accommodation is available.
  • Take warm clothing, waterproofs and suitable footwear.
  • Water is not always available, be self-sufficient.
  • Do not hesitate to seek professional qualified advice.

In the Mountains :

  • Keep to the marked trails.
  • Avoid crossing agricultural fields.
  • Please do not disturb animals, especially during the winter when natural resources are limited and the animals are vulnerable.
  • Please respect the sheepfolds and mountain refuges. Please take your litter home with you.
  • Bypass the animal herds and keep your distance from guard dogs as they are there to protect the flocks from predators.
